What to do if your bank application is rejected

You can reapply after a rejected bank application. Banks like Mercury, Slash, and Relay each have their own restrictions, especially for international founders, and doola can guide you through requirements but can't override any bank's decision or see the specific reason behind a rejection. Here's what typically happens and what to do next: 1. Most banks send a generic denial without disclosing the exact reason, due to compliance rules that apply to the bank, not to doola. 2. Reapplying is usually allowed, often with no waiting period, but you'll typically need to submit a brand-new application rather than add documents to the rejected one. 3. Before you reapply, make sure your business address, personal address, and identity documents are complete, consistent, and accurate, and include any proof of business activity you have, even a business plan or personal bank statements can help. 4. Some rejections come from a hard eligibility block, such as being based in a country or industry the bank doesn't support, rather than a documentation issue. If that's the case, an alternative banking provider that better fits your location may be a better path than reapplying to the same bank; some alternatives may require a U.S. address or an ITIN, so review eligibility for any option before you apply. Have questions about reapplying after checking the bank’s eligibility requirements and your application details? Click the chat button in the bottom-right corner of this page or email us at hello@doola.com. We can review your situation, help you strengthen a reapplication, or point you toward a banking option that better matches your location.
