What are the business formation fees for starting an LLC?
Starting an LLC involves two separate one-time costs: a business setup fee and a state filing fee. The state filing fee is a one-time charge paid directly to the state where you form your LLC, no state charges LLC filing fees on a monthly basis. Beyond that initial filing fee, most states also charge an ongoing annual (or biennial) fee to keep your LLC in good standing, sometimes called an annual report fee or franchise tax.
Both the initial filing fee and the ongoing annual fee are set independently by each state's Secretary of State (or equivalent office) and vary significantly from state to state, so the amount you'll pay depends on where you form your LLC. Because these fees change over time and differ by state, doola keeps you informed of your specific state and annual fees directly in your dashboard, and reminds you before they're due, so you can check the current, accurate figures for your state there rather than relying on a static published table.
