Which states require sales tax registration?

Yes, businesses must register separately in each state where businesses have sales tax obligations. Most U.S. states require businesses to register for sales tax if they meet physical or economic nexus requirements. Economic nexus means businesses may need to collect sales tax in a state if businesses exceed that state's revenue or transaction threshold, even if businesses do not have a physical presence there. Each state sets its own rules. Some states, like Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon, do not have a statewide sales tax.
