How to change your company’s name or address

You can change your company's name or business address after formation by filing an amendment with your state. doola files the amendment for you and then updates your records with the IRS. ## What you can change - Company name: your new name must be available in your state and meet its naming rules. - Business address: the main address of your company on file with the state. This article doesn't cover your registered agent address. If doola is your registered agent, you don't need to change that address. ## How to request a change ### 1. Start the request Log in to your doola dashboard, go to Services, and select Amendment. ### 2. Share the details of the change - For a name change: send your new company name and two alternatives, in case your first choice isn't available. - For an address change: send your new business address. You can change your name and address in the same request. ### 3. Pay the fees The total includes doola's service fee and your state's filing fee, which varies by state. You'll see the amount before you pay. ### 4. We file the amendment with your state We check your new name's availability, if you're changing your name, and file the amendment with your state. If the state needs more information, we'll contact you. ### 5. You receive your approved amendment When the state approves the amendment, we'll let you know and upload the approved document to your dashboard. ### 6. We update the IRS After the state approves your amendment, we update your company's name or address with the IRS at no extra charge. The IRS can take a few months to update its records. This doesn't affect your company's standing with the state. ## What you need to update yourself doola updates your records with the state and the IRS.
