What compliance filings do I need to complete, and when?

Your required filings depend on your entity type and state, but most businesses need to stay on top of two recurring items every year: a state annual report (often paired with a franchise tax) and a federal tax return. Annual reports are filed according to your state's rules and usually confirm your company information, registered agent, and, for corporations, authorized shares. This is required even if your business had zero revenue for the year, and many states also charge a franchise tax alongside it. Deadlines and fees vary by state, so check your state's specific requirements. For your federal tax return, the due date depends on your entity type. If you need more time to file, you can request an automatic extension using Form 7004; this only extends your time to file, not your time to pay, so any tax you expect to owe is still due by the original deadline. doola tracks all of these deadlines for your specific business in your personalized Compliance Calendar, so you always know what's coming up and when.
